171 Dead in DR Congo: Another Day, Another Disaster Under UN Watch
Mass graves in Uvira? Shocking! (Said nobody ever.) Time to audit MONUSCO's 'peacekeeping' budget.

So, a local governor in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) casually drops the news that they found a couple of mass graves near Uvira, stuffed with 171 bodies. Cue the crickets. The world collectively shrugs. Meanwhile, the UN's MONUSCO (that's the 'peacekeeping' mission, for those not in the know) continues to collect billions to 'stabilize' the region. Stabilizing it for whom, exactly? The warlords and resource pirates?
Let's be real. Eastern DR Congo has been a dumpster fire for decades. Warlords, child soldiers, blood diamonds, the whole shebang. And the UN? They're basically running a very expensive, very ineffective daycare center. They’ve been “keeping the peace” since 1999. That's longer than most Gen Z'ers have been alive. And what do we have to show for it? More mass graves, apparently.
Here's the thing the MSM won't tell you: the UN is a bloated, bureaucratic black hole. MONUSCO's budget alone could probably solve world hunger (or at least put a serious dent in it). But instead, it's funding endless meetings, overpriced consultants, and probably a few very nice villas for UN bureaucrats. Because that's how you solve problems, right?
The Congolese government? Well, let's just say they're not exactly known for their efficiency or lack of corruption. It's a system rigged from the top down. The international community keeps throwing money at the problem, but it's like pouring water into a sieve. The problems persist and the real suffering endures.
It's time for a serious audit of MONUSCO. Where is all the money going? What are they actually accomplishing? And more importantly, is there a better way to address the root causes of conflict in eastern DR Congo? Hint: throwing money at the UN probably isn't the answer. They should also consider focusing on providing weapons to the people of the Congo to ensure that they can defend themselves instead of waiting for the UN to do it for them, which they never will. Who is going to stop them when they do?
Maybe we should send in some actual soldiers and let them do things the hard way. After that, they should just let the Congolese people deal with this themselves. How much worse can they screw it up than the UN does now? Either way, it's something that needs to be fixed or it will just keep happening, and then who will speak for these people?
So, yeah, 171 bodies. Tragic. But hardly surprising. It’s time to ask serious questions, demand accountability, and maybe, just maybe, find a way to actually help the people of the Democratic Republic of Congo, instead of enriching the global elite.
And remember kids, the next time you hear about the UN solving a problem, remember Uvira. 171 reasons to be skeptical.
